The Mermaid

The Mermaid feeding station plays host to the largest colony fed and monitored by Syros Cats. Around 15 cats visit regularly all-year-round, but this number doubles in the winter months when other sources of food become scarce. Here are some of our regulars, some of which already have names, some not.

Cashew
Cashew

Cashew is a little reserved but he will let you pet him. He has a very high-pitched meow!

Athena
Athena

Athena is a bit wary of humans at first but is very friendly when you get to know her.

Siv
Siv

Siv has very soft fur! You can pet her when she is eating, but at other times she is very wary. She was neutered in our neutering campaign in early 2022.

Fungee
Fungee

When Fungee first showed up, we thought she was suffering from a fungal infection (hence her name!) but we have since discovered she has a flea allergy. She is very scared, cannot be handled and unlike many of the others in the colony, will not approach you to be petted. Instead, she prefers to keep her distance.

Nounou
Nounou

If you could ask the other cats in the colony about Nounou, we’re sure they’d say that Nounou’s a nuisance! At feed times, she likes her own space, so will push the others out of the way.

Calino
Calino

Calino is the Calico with No tail! Our volunteers discovered that her tail was injured and had become infected. We arranged for her to be taken to the vet to have it removed. She’s made a full recovery from her surgery and is a healthy young cat. She’s quite shy and prefers to keep her distance from humans.

Troy
Troy

Young Troy came from this colony but is now in our care. Earlier this year, we noticed he had a badly infected hind leg which sadly had to be amputated, meaning that he could not go back onto the streets. Happily, he has made a great recovery and is learning to get around on three legs. He is gaining confidence around people and loves the company of other cats. He recently travelled to Sweden to start a new life in a loving home.

Onyx & Louis
Onyx & Louis

Young teenagers Onyx & Louis were also brought into our care from the Mermaid Colony as we felt they were too vulnerable out on the streets, particularly Onyx who has a limp caused by a paw injury. They have since been re-homed to Sweden.
