The Fishermen’s Colony

You are now at the Fishermen’s Colony Feeding Station. Take a look at the smart new feeder which has been hand-painted by one of the talented volunteers at Syros Cats. The street cats in this colony are luckier than most, as they are fed daily by Syros Cats but are also given the occasional fish by the fishermen. No wonder that they all look so healthy with lovely glossy soft fur! These are some of the regular crew members that you might spot at this feeding station:

Karamelos
Karamelos

What can you say about Karamelos? What a wonderful character he is. He was once a taverna cat but was brought to Syros Cats for treatment to remove a tooth that was growing into his cheek, causing great pain and preventing him from eating. He was such a friendly, purry cat that it was hoped he would become a permanent resident at Syros Cats, or perhaps even find a home with someone. But Karamelos had other ideas. After a few weeks hanging around back at base with the other resident cats, he decided to try his luck again at the tavernas in Kini and eventually returned there permanently and joined the Fishermen’s Colony. So who are we to argue? Karamelos had made the decision to live the life he wants! But we still keep an eye on our boy, making sure he’s healthy and giving him treatment if required. He’s very friendly and will happily greet anyone visiting the feeding station – he will even sit on your lap!

Bernie
Bernie

When Bernie first appeared here, he had a diamond-shaped mark on his face, which was the result of a burn injury. Bernie is very friendly but tends to be a little shy initially.

Egypt
Egypt

Egypt may be the smallest in size but he’s definitely the boss of the colony! He is friendly with people and is quite sociable.

Stella
Stella

Tortoiseshell Stella is quite a sassy lady! She always makes an appearance at feed times and will tolerate people but has her boundaries, so please respect them. Stella has had dental work done and has been treated for dermatitis caused by a flea allergy.

Chonk
Chonk

Chunky boy Chonk is very friendly. He can often be found cuddling with his best friend Harley.

Harley
Harley

Harley, the other tortoiseshell in the colony, is quite the opposite of sassy Stella. Harley is an easy-going, very chilled cat. She has bonded with tabby Chonk.

Babinos
Babinos

Babinos is a very popular cat. He has his own human admirer who visits him every day!

Pancake
Pancake

Pancake is a very sweet and friendly cat. He was so named because his light ginger fur reminded us of the colour of pancake batter!

Coco
Coco

Coco used to be a member of the Fishermen’s Colony. In 2021, volunteers noticed that her ears were badly infected. So bad, in fact, that she needed to be sedated by the vet so that they could be cleaned thoroughly. This was followed by an intensive 6-month course of antibiotics and cortisone, plus regular cleaning under sedation, so it made sense for Coco to stay at Syros Cats for the duration of her treatment. Happily Coco has made a complete recovery and has decided that she rather likes hanging around the main house with all the other resident cats and has no desire to return to the colony. She spends most of her days snoozing in comfort on the terrace.
