About Barney
Barney is our longest resident! He was born in 2009, which also makes him our oldest boy here!
He came around when he was 8 months old with horrible wounds on his back, probably from being trapped somewhere. He recovered amazingly!
Due to the sun, cancer started to spread on his nose and since the island didn’t have the cryotherapy technology at that time, he needed a nose amputation.
He’s known all the volunteers and visitors in Syros Cats, greeting everyone with his very particular meow ( one of his favourite volunteers even taught him how to do the high-five for treats).
He’s ageing gracefully now but absolutely loves joining us at breakfast, having some cheese and just enjoying our company in the sun.
We’ve recently discovered he has cancer one of his kidneys and part of his intestine, and due to his age surgery is a very risky option. We have had to make the decision to let him be. He’s still quite a happy cat, eating loads, having his routine, enjoying the sun, the volunteers and the treats (where we hide his meds but ssshh, don’t tell him!).
