September Adoption News!

We always love to hear how our cats and kittens are doing in their forever homes. It gladdens our hearts to think we’ve made a difference to these lives and it makes all the work worthwhile. Here are a few updates from Fernando, Carmencita, Catsou (now Simon) and Simone.

Fernando

From village life to city boy: Fernando started showing up at the Mini Market colony in Kini. He was very friendly but since he was around at different times of the day, we knew he was a true stray, and not just someone’s opportunistic pet dropping by the feeding station for a snack! We felt he would do well in a home and so, after spending a short period with us on site as we prepared him for travel, he was soon off to the bright lights of London and a new life with Julia. Thank you so much, Julia, for welcoming this boy into your home where we know he is adored and will have a wonderful life.

Carmencita

It’s taken a whole year, but finally Carmencita has a home! This gorgeous girl came to us as a tiny orphan kitten in September 2023. She was a cute, friendly girl right from the start and we couldn’t understand why she hadn’t been adopted when all her teenager pals had been. But then she met one of our volunteers, Romain, and they fell in love. And so, one ferry ride, one plane ride and a 3-hour car trip later, Carmencita is now settling into her new home in France and is meeting her new sister Paulette for the first time. Life is certainly looking good for this fun-loving tortie. Thank you Romain for giving Carmencita a great home…and for being a great volunteer!

Catsou (now Simon) & Simone

Catsou and Simone were adopted by Annika in Sweden. Initially rescued off the streets by tourists before coming to live at Syros Cats, Catsou was a lively, playful boy right from the start. Simone was found as a tiny kitten screaming and crying under a bush. Being blind, she was no doubt scared of the big world around her and used her voice to express her fear. We discovered that Simone had chronic keratitis, which meant that her eyesight would not improve. Luckily, however, she was healthy in every other way, other than being small for her age.  Both were adopted by Annika in Sweden who gives us this latest update:

‘They have both settled in really well. No surprise there, they are the most confident cats I ever had! But I was amazed at how well Simone, who can only see shadows in good light, gets around my apartment. In the beginning I was very careful that all things were in its place so she wouldn’t get hurt. After a while I realised she could manage very well, even when I left a bag on the floor. Now her blindness is something I don´t think about; she is no different from any of my other cats, jumping up onto chairs, chasing cat toys and, at times, wrestling Catsou!

Catsou came here a healthy boy, but was diagnosed with Feline Chronic Gingivostomatitis almost  a year later. Unfortunately he has had to have all his teeth removed. Not that that bothers him at all! He can eat nibbles like any other cat, but also gets wet food morning and night (as he did even before losing his teeth).

When they first came to their forever home, Simone was already loving lots of cuddles. Catsou… not so much. When I picked him up he would just pour out of my arms like liquid. He didn’t like it at all. It took a while, but now he is a very affectionate cat, very loving of his mum.’
