New inpatients: Basil, Rennie & Freddy

This little trio have kept us busy these last few weeks, but we’re happy we were able to help them.

Basil

Tiny Basil was found in Kini with dreadfully infected eyes, a common occurrence with street kittens born of weak and sickly mums. We feared he would lose his sight but a course of eye drops and oral antibiotics has done the trick and though his eyes still have a milky appearance they are working!
Basil will stay with us and will be rehomed once he is 100% fit and healthy. A tiny life, now with a chance of a happy future!

Rennie

Rennie, a street cat from Ano Syros, was spotted with a serious neck wound, probably the result of a fight with another unneutered male. Left untreated, the wound had developed an abscess, with the infection worsening over time. His wound was cleaned, stitched and left partly open to drain. Rennie is now with us for a course of antibiotics, rest and good food to allow the healing process time to take effect, which could be a month or so. The tricky location of the wound means Rennie can’t wear a cone (not that he’d be happy about that anyway!). Rennie is a street cat through-and-through and is unhappy being confined, so when he is fully recovered he will be released back to his familiar territory in Ano Syros, in an area we know is safe. He’s now sterilised, so the risk of him getting into more fights is much reduced.

Freddy

Freddy is from a colony in the Pefkakia area of Ermoupolis. He was spotted dragging his front leg, and on examination, it was found to be an old injury that had not healed properly. Unfortunately the only option was to amputate the limb and Freddy is now with us, recuperating post-op. Like Rennie, Freddy prefers life as a colony cat and once he’s healed properly, he will be released back to his home territory where he and the rest of his crew will be monitored by our local Cat Guardian. We’re also happy to report that Freddy and his entire colony of 14 females and 5 males have now been sterilised, so we know a healthier life awaits them all.
