Busy time in the recovery room!

Our hospital wing has been kept busy recently as a few of our residents, and one of our street cats, have needed veterinary care. Dougan, Romeo, Janusz and Mother One have all been successfully treated and are on the road to recovery. Read their stories below:

Dougan

Our gentle ginger gentleman, Dougan, had just two teeth left but we noticed recently that one of them seemed to be bothering him. Our vet extracted the offending tooth, leaving Dougan with just one! But cats adapt well to tooth loss, and it’s a far better option than being in pain and running the risk of infection. We also ran a routine blood test on Dougan and we’re delighted to say the results are all good. Not bad for a 15-year old!

One fun fact we just learned about Dougan: he’s a very quiet boy at home, but in the car he warbles his protest song very loudly!

Romeo

Romeo, another of our elderly residents – we reckon he too is around 15 years old – had a nasty-looking mouth and required the extraction of several teeth. He’s now fully recovered and pain-free.

Janusz

Janusz is a fairly new arrival, having walked onto our land on New Year’s Day 2025! From day one, he has had a runny eye and a squint. Despite trying several different eye drops, there was no improvement, and we feared he may lose the eye. An examination under sedation revealed that an ulcer had grown and attached itself to the eyeball, restricting the movement of the eye. Imagine how painful this has been! Luckily, our vet managed to remove the ulcer. The eye is much better now and Janusz is free from discomfort. A lucky boy indeed.

Mother One

Mother One is a senior street cat in a colony at Finikas where we have so far sterilised 19 cats. She recently underwent further surgery to remove cancerous lesions on her ear – a common occurrence in cats with sun-sensitive skin. And we’re happy to report that it looks like a success! Mother One had a textbook recovery and she is now back with her colony where our volunteer feeder reports that she’s doing well. Fingers crossed for a successful outcome for this beautiful lady!
